The Strongman - JOE BONOMO
A pictorial autobiography of Hollywood's first superstar strongman and stuntman.
This is a special edition telling of all the daredevil exploits of the mightiest man in the movies.....
As a child Bonomo built himself into a strongman winning the "Mr Modern Apollo" contest of 1921 where the prizes included a ten-week movie contract. He began as a stunt double soon doubling for Lon Chaney. He lost the role of Tarzan when he injured himself before shooting.
When sound came, Joe's strong Brooklyn accent precluded him from film roles. He remained famous by series of magazine adverts offering bodybuilding by mail order.
This autobiography was first published in 1968 and runs to 352 pages containing many photographs and anecdotes of Joe's life.
